Episode 238: Your Two Goals for 2023 — Purpose and Profit

Welcome back to the Passports, Profits and Pixie Dust Podcast! I’m your host, Lindsay Dollinger — dog mama, Disney lover, high school Spanish teacher, and business coach for ambitious women ready to build both the business and life of their dreams. ✨

If you’re listening in real-time, it’s the start of a brand new year — so, happy 2023! 🎉

Today’s episode is short, sweet, and intentional. Everyone’s setting resolutions and talking about “New Year, New You,” but I want to simplify things. Instead of creating a long list of goals that might feel overwhelming, let’s focus on just two goals — the ones that will truly move the needle in your life and business this year.

🪄 The Two Goals That Matter Most

As a strategy-loving systems girl, I know how tempting it is to jump straight into planning and doing. But before we set the map for where we’re going, we need to make sure we’ve actually entered a destination.

That’s where these two key goals come in:

  1. Your Financial Goal
  2. Your Impact (Purpose) Goal

You can think of these as your GPS coordinates for the year — one represents your destination, the other your reason for going there.

💰 Goal #1: Your Financial Goal

Let’s start with the one many people shy away from — money.

It’s not “icky” to talk about finances. In fact, if you’re running a business, it’s essential. Without a financial plan, you’re running a hobby — not a business.

So ask yourself:

  • What income goal would feel exciting and life-changing this year?
  • What would it allow you to do — for your family, your community, or yourself?
  • How much revenue would give you the freedom to create even more impact?

Dream big. Don’t limit yourself by setting goals you already know you can reach. Push the boundaries. Your financial success doesn’t just serve you — it amplifies the good you can do in the world.

🌟 Goal #2: Your Purpose (Impact) Goal

Now, let’s talk about the heart of your business — the impact you want to make.

Ask yourself:

  • How do I want my clients, customers, or teammates to feel after working with me?
  • What transformation do I want to help them achieve?
  • What kind of energy and environment am I creating for the people in my circle — clients, community members, even collaborators or assistants?

For me, that means looking at the women inside my membership and asking:

“What impact do I want to create for them this year?”

It also means thinking about how I can expand my reach — through speaking engagements, summits, or guest podcast appearances. I’ve been narrowing down the 2–3 topics I feel most passionate about sharing, the ones that align with my mission and serve others deeply.

You can do the same — whether that’s through your services, your content, or your presence. Your impact goal becomes your guiding light, reminding you why you started in the first place.

✍️ Journal It Out

Take some time today to journal on both sides:

  1. What is my impact goal for 2023?
  2. What is my financial goal for 2023?

And remember — these two goals don’t compete with each other. They complement each other.

Your purpose fuels your profit, and your profit allows you to expand your purpose. 💕
