Podcast Episode 175: Do it MESSY

Building a Business in the Messy Middle: Why Imperfect Action Still Works

If you’ve been around here a while, you know this podcast (and this brand!) has always been about building a magical business and life in the real world—in the small pockets of your day, between school bells, in the car, during your lunch break, and in all the imperfect moments that make up your actual life.

And today’s blog is exactly that: a reminder that you don’t need perfect conditions to take action. You just need to start.

This post comes straight from a Biz Tip Thursday episode I recorded… yep, in my Honda Civic, on the way to work. And honestly? That’s exactly the point.

Let’s dive in.

Listen here:

The Behind-the-Scenes Truth: Life is Busy, Especially in May

At the time of recording this episode, it was May—aka the wildest month of the year for teachers.
Two weeks left of school.
End-of-year everything.
Emotions, stress, excitement, exhaustion… all hitting at once.

And in the middle of that chaos, I’m also working on major changes to the podcast (spoiler: rebrand + relaunch party coming soon!).

It’s a lot.
But it’s also life.

And my business still gets to grow in the middle of all of it—because I’ve learned how to work my business in the margins.

Why I Still Record Biz Tip Thursday Episodes in the Car

A while back, I had a VA who told me she didn’t like the Thursday episodes because the audio wasn’t perfect.

She wasn’t wrong.
There is road noise.
My Civic is not a soundproof studio.
Occasionally coins jingle or my turn signal clicks.

But here’s the truth:

I’m not trying to present a perfectly curated life.
I’m showing women what’s actually possible.

You don’t need a sound booth.
You don’t need a $2,000/month podcast team.
You don’t need ideal conditions.

You need the courage to do it anyway.

And that’s what my podcast coach reminded me of this week. She said:

“You’re inviting women to come along with you. They’re building their business with you—not after you’ve figured it all out.”

And THAT is why the car episodes stay.
The imperfection isn’t a flaw.
It’s the message.

You Can Build a Business in the Pockets of Your Day

This is your reminder:

✨ You can record episodes in your car.
✨ You can work your business before school drop-off.
✨ You can create content during your kid’s nap.
✨ You can send emails from the grocery pickup line.

Five-minute pockets add up when you’re consistent.
And small steps count when you keep taking them.

And if it helps you feel better—here’s what’s real for me:

✔ I don’t have a podcast manager (yet)
✔ I don’t have someone writing long SEO’d show notes
✔ I don’t have a team posting all my content

Those things may happen eventually.
But we don’t wait for “eventually” to start.

On Delegation (And Why I’m Not Doing Much of It Right Now)

If you’ve listened to this show for a while, you know I’m normally a huge advocate for delegating.

But right now?
I’m not delegating much at all.

Not because I’m against it.
But because:

✔ I simplified my offers
✔ I streamlined my systems
✔ I created Canva templates for everything
✔ I developed reusable email formats
✔ I trimmed the business fat

My business feels lighter, clearer, cleaner.

And that’s the beauty of building things yourself in the beginning—you learn exactly what you want to outsource later… and what you don’t need to.

Delegation is coming back when I launch my mastermind this fall (you heard it here first!). But for now, I’m operating in a beautifully simplified season.

Do It Messy. Do It Imperfect. Just Do It.

The whole point of this episode—the whole point of this blog—is this:

Stop waiting for perfect.
Start where you are.
Use what you have.
Do it messy.

Record the episode.
Send the email.
Post the Reel.
Launch the offer.
Write the blog.
Open the group.
Sell the thing.

You cannot get better at something you’re not doing.

And someone out there is genuinely waiting for what you’re too scared or too busy to release.

Your Action Step Today

Ask yourself:

👉 What is one messy action I can take today that moves my business forward?

Then go do it.
Don’t overthink it.
Don’t polish it.
Don’t wait for ideal conditions.

Just… start.
