How to Realign Your Energy as a Direct Seller (So Your Business Thrives)

Today’s “Car Talk Thursday” is part business, part personal… and completely essential for every entrepreneur.

Because here’s the truth:

Your energy affects EVERYTHING—your business, your content, your conversations, your mood, your confidence, and even your productivity.

If your energy is “off,” you feel it.
Your audience feels it.
Your team feels it.
Your customers feel it.
And your results reflect it.

So let’s talk about how to realign your energy, reset when needed, and protect that mental + physical vibe that fuels your success.


🌙 1. Your Sleep Might Be Sabotaging Your Energy

Sleep is one of the biggest energy disruptors—and most of us underestimate its impact.

It’s not just how much sleep you get…
It’s when and how you sleep.

I learned this from a sleep expert on a Chalene Johnson podcast (SO good). He explained that:

Your body sleeps in cycles of roughly 90 minutes.

This is when you move through light sleep → deep sleep → REM.

If you wake up mid cycle, you feel groggy, irritable, unfocused, and “off.”

But if you wake up at the end of a cycle, you feel naturally refreshed.

So instead of aiming for an arbitrary “8 hours,” try timing your sleep around your cycles:

  • 6 hours
  • 7.5 hours
  • 9 hours

I’ve always naturally needed 9, and this finally made sense.

Try this:

  • Track when you fall asleep.
  • Track when you naturally wake up.
  • Look for the 90-min pattern.
  • Adjust bedtime so you wake at the end of a cycle.

It makes a huge difference.

You can also improve sleep by:

  • Wearing blue light blocking glasses at night
  • Turning off your phone 30–60 minutes before bed
  • Creating a nighttime routine
  • Using sleep-support supplements
  • Getting ready for tomorrow the night before
  • Reviewing your planner/tracker so your mind is calm

When your sleep is aligned, your energy calms, sharpens, and strengthens.


🧑‍🤝‍🧑 2. The People Around You Affect Your Energy More Than You Realize

We all know this…
But we forget it constantly.

Your energy is shaped by:

  • The people you spend time with
  • The people you follow online
  • The people you allow to influence you

So ask yourself:

“Do the people in my orbit lift me up—or drain me?”

Are they:

  • Thinkers?
  • Dreamers?
  • Doers?
  • Encouragers?
  • Leaders?

Or are they:

  • Complainers?
  • Excuse-makers?
  • Gossipers?
  • Quitters?
  • Dream-shrinkers?

You don’t have to abandon your people…
But you DO need to intentionally add people who expand your energy.

This is why accountability partners matter.
This is why mentorship matters.
This is why community matters.

Find people who push you, challenge you, and stretch your goals.

If you’re always the “highest performer” in your circle…
Your circle needs upgrading.

You need people ahead of you so you can rise.


🎯 3. Dream BIGGER (Your Energy Shrinks When Your Dreams Do)

One of the fastest ways to drain your energy?

Setting small goals.

I talk to so many women whose goals are the bare minimum:

  • Bare minimum paycheck
  • Bare minimum rank
  • Bare minimum effort
  • Bare minimum belief

Girl… WHY?

Dream big.
Think big.
Aim high.

Look around you—people in your company are hitting those big ranks.
They’re earning trips.
They’re changing their lives.
They’re donating generously.
They’re traveling.
They’re paying off debt.
They’re building freedom.

And if they can do it?

You can too.

The only difference is energy, consistency, belief, and action.

When your goals inspire you, your energy naturally rises.


🎧 4. Personal Development Recalibrates Your Energy Constantly

Personal development is not optional—especially in direct sales.

It might look like:

  • Podcasts
  • Books
  • Morning affirmations
  • Journaling
  • Therapy
  • Devotionals
  • Mindset training
  • Gratitude practices

This isn’t fluff.
This is fuel.

You cannot pour into your customers, team, or content if you’re empty.

Most of us weren’t raised to naturally do personal development—it’s a habit you intentionally build.

Start small:

  • 10 minutes a day
  • A few pages of a book
  • A short podcast episode
  • Writing down three wins

Your mindset impacts your energy, and your energy impacts EVERYTHING.


🏃‍♀️ 5. Your Physical Body Impacts Your Business More Than You Realize

Your body affects your:

  • Confidence
  • Mood
  • Productivity
  • Visibility
  • Consistency

And ultimately… your results.

Movement matters.
Hydration matters.
Nutrition matters.
Sunshine matters.
Fresh air matters.

Especially when life feels heavy or stressful.

As a teacher, I feel this deeply—especially near the end of the school year.
There’s stress.
There’s frustration.
There’s overwhelm.
And if I don’t move my body?
It piles up fast.

Sometimes a five-minute walk changes everything.

Your business flows better when you feel better.

Your energy clears when your body clears.


⚡ Bonus: Give Yourself Space to Reset

You can take 5 minutes away.
You can unplug from your phone.
You can reset.
You can recalibrate.

That pause is often the exact thing that brings your energy back.

Resetting isn’t quitting.
Resetting is refueling.

When your energy is aligned:

  • You attract better customers
  • Your content lands better
  • You communicate clearer
  • Your confidence grows
  • You lead better
  • You sell better
  • You FEEL better

Protect it.
Realign it.
Nourish it.
Honor it.
