This topic has been sitting on my heart because I had something happen recently that reminded me just how different a scarcity mindset is from an abundance mindset — and how deeply it affects the way we grow, show up, and run our businesses.
I’m sharing the story with love, without names or drama, because the message is powerful and something we all need to check within ourselves from time to time.
Listen to the show here:
First, Let’s Talk About Mindset: Scarcity vs. Abundance
You’ve probably heard these terms before, especially if you’re in direct sales, entrepreneurship, or personal development circles.
But let’s simplify them:
Scarcity Mindset
- There’s not enough to go around.
- If someone else wins, I lose.
- Opportunities are limited.
- People will leave me for someone better.
- I have to hold tight to what I have.
- Collaboration is risky.
Basically… fear drives everything.
Abundance Mindset
- There is more than enough for everyone.
- Collaboration creates expansion.
- Helping others does not take away from me.
- My people will find me.
- What I put out, I get back.
- Sharing value is never wasted.
This mindset is rooted in confidence, trust, generosity, and long-term vision.
And let me tell you… the difference becomes very clear when you’re tested.
A Real-Life Example: When Scarcity Creeps In
So here’s what happened:
A while back, I joined a membership run by a woman I massively respect. She’s smart, successful, and played a role in my early business growth. I invested in her annual membership, learned what I needed, and eventually — as often happens in business — I outgrew it.
I didn’t cancel mid-contract. I didn’t leave early.
I fulfilled my membership and simply chose not to renew.
Totally normal. No drama.
Fast forward:
I had posted on Facebook looking for podcast guests. I love featuring experts — even “competitors” — because you never know what value they’ll bring to listeners. She commented and said she’d love to be a guest. Even suggested we podcast swap.
Amazing, right?
We scheduled it. She added it to her calendar. Everything was good.
Then… shortly after my membership renewal date passed… I got an email.
A very cold, unexpected email.
She no longer wanted to be on my podcast.
She didn’t want me on hers.
She didn’t want any collaboration because I “wasn’t in her academy anymore.”
No conversation.
No kindness.
Just a door slammed shut.
And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a sting.
Not because I needed anything from her, but because of what it represented.
This Is Scarcity Mindset in Full Swing
It said:
- “If you’re not paying me, you’re not valuable.”
- “If you’re not inside my program, you’re not worth collaborating with.”
- “I don’t want my audience to see your work unless you’re financially benefiting me.”
And friend… I sat with that for a moment.
Then I realized:
Her reaction had nothing to do with me.
It had everything to do with scarcity.
If you fear losing clients, losing visibility, losing credibility, losing money…
you will always operate from a place of protection instead of expansion.
And that creates walls, burned bridges, and missed opportunities.
Abundance Mindset Says Something Very Different
Here’s why the whole thing didn’t rock me:
I firmly believe:
✨ There is room for all of us at the table.
✨ My people will choose me because they connect with me.
✨ Someone else’s success doesn’t take away from mine.
✨ If I help you shine, I shine too.
✨ Value always returns tenfold.
✨ Collaboration builds empires, not competition.
I literally interview people in MY OWN INDUSTRY on my OWN PODCAST — even those who sell the same product — because I don’t fear losing customers.
Why?
Because if someone has listened to 60+ episodes of this podcast and still feels more aligned with a guest than with me… then that person wasn’t my person to begin with.
And I’m okay with that. I celebrate that.
Because everyone wins when people find the coach, mentor, or community that fits them best.
Here’s the Real Lesson
If you want to grow a big, joyful, aligned business…
👉 You cannot operate from fear.
👉 You cannot hoard information.
👉 You cannot resent people for outgrowing you.
👉 You cannot close doors because you feel threatened.
👉 You cannot shrink your world because you fear someone might “take” something from you.
That mindset will cap you every single time.
What you put out comes back.
Scarcity creates more scarcity.
Abundance creates more abundance.
This is not woo — this is business truth.
Choose Abundance Every Time
You cannot grow a massive, heart-centered, impact-making business by being afraid of other people’s success.
You grow by:
- Collaborating
- Connecting
- Giving generously
- Welcoming new opportunities
- Letting the right people find you
- Trusting that there is always more on the way
Your energy matters.
Your intention matters.
The way you treat people matters.
And if someone walks away, cancels a collaboration, chooses someone else, or outgrows you?
It’s not a loss.
It’s alignment.
And alignment always brings better.
Final Thoughts
Don’t let fear turn you into someone you don’t want to be.
Don’t let scarcity stop you from connecting, sharing, and expanding.
And please, please, please… don’t burn bridges because someone chooses a different path.
Your people are out there.
Your opportunities are endless.
Your success is already in motion.
Lean into abundance — always.
It will take you farther than fear ever will.
