445. What 39 Years Taught Me About Business, Travel & Building a Life You Love (Birthday Episode!)

(Birthday Reflections from a Travel Agency Owner & Entrepreneur)
Listen here:

Hey, hey friend šŸ‘‹

Welcome back to Passports, Profits, and Pixie Dust—but today, we’re doing something a little extra special.

Because today… I turn 39.

And honestly? It feels a little wild. Like… how am I almost 40 but also still feel 21 most days? Anyone else? šŸ˜…

At the time you’re reading this, I’m celebrating my birthday on a cruise aboard the Carnival Valor—sailing out of New Orleans (one of my dad’s favorite cities and honestly such a vibe).

But instead of just celebrating with cake and cocktails (don’t worry, there’s plenty of that too šŸ„‚), I wanted to share something meaningful:

šŸ‘‰ 39 lessons I’ve learned about business, travel, and building a life I actually love.

Some I learned the easy way.
Some… not so much.

But all of them shaped who I am today—and the business I’ve built.

Let’s dive in.

šŸ’» Business Lessons That Will Change Everything

1. You don’t need permission to start

No degree. No certification. No magical ā€œreadyā€ moment.

Just decide—and go all in.

2. Done is better than perfect

Perfectionism? That’s just fear in a cute outfit.

Post it. Launch it. Try it.

3. Your first version will be messy

Your first offer. Your first client. Your first trip.

Messy is normal.

Heck—I still make mistakes (hi, accidentally booking the wrong flight dates šŸ™ƒ).

4. Visibility solves most business problems

More people need to know you exist.

That’s it. That’s the strategy.

5. Consistency beats intensity

One post a day > disappearing for 3 weeks and coming back ā€œon fire.ā€

6. People aren’t seeing your content as much as you think

Repeat yourself.

Say it again.

And again.

7. Confused people don’t buy

If you’re trying to do everything, you’ll sell nothing.

Clarity = cash.

8. Your email list is GOLD

Social media? Borrowed land.

Your email list? Yours forever.

9. You can’t outwork a bad strategy

Working harder isn’t the flex.

Working smarter is.

10. You probably need to charge more

Or upsell more.

Or stop underestimating your value.

✨ Mindset Shifts That Actually Matter

11. Your business grows as your mindset grows

If you don’t believe it’s possible, you’ll subconsciously sabotage it.

12. Confidence comes from action

Not the other way around.

You get confident because you do the thing.

13. Most people quit too early

You’re probably closer than you think.

Don’t stop now.

14. Fear of judgment keeps people stuck

Spoiler: people aren’t thinking about you that much.

And if they are? Block them 😌

15. Not everyone will support you

And that one… hurts.

But the right people will.

And that’s what matters.

16. Rest is productive

Burnout doesn’t earn you a badge.

Take care of yourself.

17. You don’t need everything figured out

You just need the next step.

šŸŒ Travel & Life Lessons That Hit Different

18. Travel changes you

Not just where you go—but how you see the world (and yourself).

And yes—get out of your comfort zone.

Not just resorts. Not just easy.

Go experience the world.

19. Your network is everything

Relationships > algorithms.

Every single time.

20. The right clients change everything

The right people make your business fun.

The wrong ones? Make you question everything.

21. Community matters more than you think

Entrepreneurship is hard.

Don’t do it alone.

22. Your story matters

Even if it feels ā€œboring.ā€

Someone out there needs to hear it.

23. You don’t need a huge audience

You need the right audience.

24. Helping people is the best marketing

Serve first.

Always.

25. There are SO many ways to make money with travel

Being a travel advisor is just one.

But yes… it’s a pretty amazing one šŸ˜‰

šŸ’” My Favorite Life Lesson (And the One I’m Living By Now)

26. Build a life you don’t need a vacation from

Yes, take the trips.
Yes, book the cruises.
Yes, explore the world.

But also…

šŸ‘‰ Build a life that feels good on a random Tuesday.

Because this?

This life you’re living right now?

It’s not a rehearsal.

šŸŽ‚ Final Thoughts (From 39-Year-Old Me)

If you’re sitting there thinking:

  • ā€œI want more freedomā€
  • ā€œI want to travel moreā€
  • ā€œI want to make more moneyā€
  • ā€œI want something differentā€

Just know this:

šŸ‘‰ It’s possible.

But you have to decide.

You have to start.

And you have to show up like the version of you who already has it.

✨ Your Next Step

I’d love to know:

šŸ‘‰ What’s ONE lesson from this list that hit you the hardest?

Send me a message, share this post, or tag me on social—I love hearing from you šŸ’•

And if this sparked something in you and you’re thinking about building a travel business…

You already know I’m your girl for that šŸ˜‰

✨ Happy birthday to me… and cheers to building a life full of freedom, travel, income, and a little pixie dust along the way.
