Tap in and hear the episode:
If you’ve ever thought…
- “Who am I to do this?”
- “There are so many agents who know more than me.”
- “What if someone asks something I don’t know?”
You’re not alone.
And honestly? I don’t even love calling it imposter syndrome anymore.
Because for a lot of us, it’s deeper than that.
It’s a lack of self-worth. A lack of confidence. A feeling that we’re not quite ready yet.
And if you don’t address it? It will quietly cap your growth, your bookings, and your income.
So today, we’re going there. Let’s talk about what this really looks like—and how to move through it so you can actually grow your travel business.
What “Imposter Syndrome” Looks Like in the Travel Industry
Let’s call it out, because I know you’ve thought at least one of these:
- “I haven’t been everywhere yet, so I can’t sell it.”
- “I’m new, so I shouldn’t charge planning fees.”
- “I need one more certification before I start posting.”
- “I’ll market myself when I feel more confident.”
🚨 None of this is true.
Here’s the truth most people don’t say out loud:
Confidence doesn’t come first. Action does.
You don’t wait until you feel ready.
You become ready by doing the thing.
You Don’t Need to Be the Most Traveled Person in the World
Let’s clear something up real quick.
You are not getting hired because you’ve been everywhere.
You’re getting hired because:
- You simplify the process
- You save your clients time
- You prevent costly mistakes
- You handle the details
- You know how to find the answers
Your value is not knowing everything.
👉 Your value is knowing how to figure it out.
5 Practical Ways to Overcome Imposter Syndrome
Let’s get into the actual strategy—because mindset without action doesn’t change anything.
1. Borrow Confidence from Your Resources
You are not doing this alone.
Use:
- Supplier trainings
- Host agency tools
- Other agents in your network
- Mentorship and community
You don’t need all the answers.
You just need to know where to find them.
2. Start Talking Before You Feel Ready
This is the one most people avoid.
You think:
“I’ll post when I feel like an expert.”
Nope.
You become the expert by:
- Sharing what you’re learning
- Posting tips
- Answering FAQs
- Taking people behind the scenes
You only need to be one step ahead of your ideal client.
3. Focus on Service, Not Perfection
Imposter syndrome keeps you focused on you.
Flip it.
Ask:
👉 “How can I help this client have the best trip possible?”
When you focus on service:
- The pressure eases
- The confidence builds
- The results follow
And yes—you will get better over time. That’s part of the process.
4. Create a “Proof Folder”
This is one of my favorite strategies.
Start saving:
- Client wins
- Thank-you messages
- Bookings
- Positive feedback
Because on the days your brain is being dramatic…
👉 You need receipts.
And those receipts will remind you:
You are good at this.
5. Decide Who You Are Before the Results Show Up
Instead of saying:
“I’ll feel confident when I get more bookings…”
Say:
👉 “I am a professional travel advisor who helps clients plan amazing trips.”
Then act like it.
Right now.
Because your audience can feel your confidence (or lack of it).
The Real Risk Isn’t What You Think
It’s not:
- Posting imperfect content
- Saying the wrong thing
- Not knowing every answer
The real risk?
👉 Staying invisible.
Because if people don’t know you exist…
You don’t have a business.
You have a hobby.
A Personal Reality Check
I’ve been there too.
- I booked cruises before I ever went on one
- I’ve questioned if I was “qualified enough”
- I’ve compared myself to million-dollar agencies
And then I realized:
👉 Everyone’s version of success looks different.
And instead of comparing, I started asking:
“What’s possible for me?”
Because if someone else can do it…
So can you.
Your Challenge (Do This Today 👇)
If this is hitting home, here’s your action plan:
- Post one piece of travel-related content
- Reach out to one potential client
- Share one travel tip (post, story, or email)
That’s it.
Because:
👉 Momentum beats perfection every time.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to wait.
You don’t need more certifications.
You don’t need to feel 100% confident.
You just need to start.
Because confidence comes after you take action—not before.
