Listen to the episode of the podcast here:
Hey friend. 💛
Today we’re talking about something that is quietly stressing you out — whether you realize it or not:
Digital clutter.
Not just the 17+ tabs open on your computer.
Not just the screenshots buried in random folders.
Not just the subscriptions you forgot you were paying for.
I’m talking about the mental load of running an online business when everything feels scattered.
If you’ve ever:
- Sat down to work and immediately felt overwhelmed
- Forgotten which platform you were supposed to post on
- Paid for tools you barely use
- Avoided logging into something because it stresses you out
This post is for you.
Where This Started for Me
Recently, I was inspired by a decluttering challenge I saw online. Around the same time, I was brainstorming ways to raise money for my nonprofit, Cathie’s Magical Memories, which sends children who’ve lost a parent to Walt Disney World.
The idea?
Declutter a number of items equal to the date each day. (February 8 = 8 items. February 28 = 28 items.)
And if you didn’t declutter? You’d donate that amount instead.
It got me cleaning out half my closet, digging through old receipts, organizing my desk — and I felt something I hadn’t realized I was missing:
Relief. Lightness. Clarity.
And that’s when it hit me.
If physical clutter can feel that heavy…
Imagine what digital clutter is doing to your brain.
What Is Digital Clutter?
Digital clutter isn’t just messy folders.
It looks like:
- Too many tools doing the same job
- Systems you meant to set up but never finished
- Old freebies, funnels, and workflows you don’t use anymore
- Notes scattered across Google Docs, Trello, notebooks, screenshots
- Paying for software out of guilt instead of value
- Feeling like your business lives everywhere and nowhere
And here’s the important part:
Digital clutter doesn’t just slow you down. It kills your momentum.
It creates:
- Decision fatigue
- Overwhelm
- Procrastination
- Slower content creation
- Less profitability
If your brain feels cluttered, your business will too.
Simplicity Scales Better Than Complexity
You might be surprised to hear this, but the most successful business owners I know usually have:
- Fewer tools
- Clear workflows
- Repeatable systems
Not more complexity. Just better clarity.
When your systems are simple:
- You show up more consistently
- You make faster decisions
- You stop second-guessing
- You respond to clients confidently
And as a travel advisor — where trust and follow-up matter — clarity is everything.
Signs You Might Need a Digital Declutter
Quick gut check. You might need to simplify if:
- You’re avoiding certain platforms because they stress you out
- You don’t know where your latest content or links live
- You’ve duplicated the same thing in three tools
- You’ve said, “I should clean this up someday”
- You’re paying for subscriptions you don’t use
This isn’t a personal failure.
It’s a normal stage of growth.
But businesses evolve — and your systems should evolve with them.
Don’t Fix Everything in One Weekend
Please hear me on this:
You do not need to overhaul your entire business this week.
Instead, focus on three areas only.
1️⃣ Audit Your Tools
Ask yourself:
- What tools do I actively use weekly?
- Are any tools overlapping in function?
- Is there something I should cancel?
If a tool creates more friction than freedom, it’s not serving you.
The purpose of a tool is to make your life easier — not heavier.
2️⃣ Simplify Your Content & Files
You don’t need 47 scattered content idea lists.
Create:
- One main content hub (Google Drive, Trello, Notion, ClickUp — whatever works for your brain)
- One place for current ideas
- One archive for old content
For example, I personally use a Google spreadsheet for content planning:
- Date column
- AM / PM post column
- Caption column
- Link to graphic or Reel
My VA schedules everything from there.
Simple. Clear. Repeatable.
Clarity will always beat chaos.
3️⃣ Clean Up Your Client Flow
Ask yourself:
- Do I know what happens after someone inquires?
- Is my follow-up clear and automated?
- Is my process written down?
- Could someone step in and understand my workflow?
Your systems don’t need to be perfect.
They just need to exist.
And once you choose a platform? Stick with it long enough to let it work.
Constant switching creates more clutter than clarity.
The Simplification Questions (Save These)
These questions are gold:
- Does this tool actually make my life easier?
- Would I choose this again today?
- Can one tool replace two?
- Is this system built for my brain — or someone else’s?
- What feels heavy that shouldn’t?
Simplification isn’t about minimalism for the sake of it.
It’s about alignment.
Why This Matters So Much
When you simplify your digital life, you:
- Create content faster
- Respond to clients more confidently
- Stop procrastinating
- Feel calmer logging into your business
- Actually enjoy working again
And most importantly:
Your business should support your life — not compete with it.
You do not need to earn simplicity.
You’re allowed to choose ease.
And simplifying your systems doesn’t mean you’re scaling down.
It often means you’re ready to scale smarter.
Your Small Action Step This Week
Don’t overhaul everything.
Just pick one tool or system and ask:
“Does this still deserve a seat at my table?”
That’s it.
One decision.
One step toward clarity.
