Best of Podcast: Using Video to Explode Visibility

Published on

Why this episode matters (even years later)

This episode is actually a replay of one of my top-performing episodes from a few years ago — and while you’ll hear me reference things like YouTube Shorts just launching, the core message still applies more than ever.

Video is no longer optional.

Whether it’s Instagram Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, or live video — video is one of the fastest ways to build know, like, and trust with your audience.

And trust?
That’s what turns followers into clients.

Video builds connection faster than anything else

When people see you on video, they don’t just see your expertise — they see you.

They see:

  • Your personality
  • Your energy
  • Your real life
  • Your struggles and wins
  • Your values

And the more human you are online, the easier it is for people to connect with you.

You don’t have to be perfect.
You don’t have to be polished.
You just have to be real.

Reels & TikToks: pick ONE and start there

Instagram Reels and TikToks are different platforms, yes — but they’re similar enough that you don’t need to overthink it.

My advice?
👉 Pick one platform to focus on.

If you feel more comfortable on Instagram, start there.
If TikTok feels easier, go with that.

You don’t need to dance or act crazy (unless you want to).
Most of my short-form videos fall into these categories:

  • Teaching something helpful
  • Sharing motivation
  • Storytelling
  • Using trending audio with my own twist

And remember this mantra:

Done is better than perfect.

That’s why I batch content, record in real life moments, and don’t wait until everything feels “just right.”

Simple Reel tips that actually work

Here’s what I recommend:

  • Use 4–5 relevant hashtags
  • Add a clear call to action in the caption
    • Follow
    • Save
    • Share
    • Comment
  • Don’t overthink the algorithm — consistency matters more

You can even save reels you love for inspiration and recreate them in your own way later.

Let’s talk about live video (the most underrated tool)

Live video is powerful — and yes, it can feel intimidating at first.

But here’s why it’s worth it:

  • People get to interact with you in real time
  • It deepens trust faster than static posts
  • It creates conversation (not just content)

What to include in every live video:

  1. A clear caption explaining what the live is about
  2. A quick introduction (your name + who you help)
  3. Value first — don’t make every live a sales pitch
  4. A simple call to action

You don’t need a perfect backdrop or fancy setup.
You just need decent lighting, decent sound, and intention.

Don’t panic about views

A quick reminder:
Platforms now count views differently — especially for live video.

That doesn’t mean your content isn’t working.

Even one person engaging live is a win — because that’s a real connection.

Repurpose your videos (this is the secret sauce)

One live video can become:

  • An Instagram Reel
  • A YouTube video
  • A blog post
  • Quotes for graphics
  • Content for your email list

You’re not creating more content — you’re creating smarter content.

And this is something we go deeper into inside Social Sales Studio, where we focus on sustainable, repeatable marketing strategies — not hustle-all-the-time energy.

What should you go live about?

If you ever think, “I don’t know what to talk about,” try one of these:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Share your journey
  • Teach a simple tip
  • Talk about a book or podcast you’re consuming
  • Share a lesson from your day
  • Tell a funny or relatable story
  • “My top 3 ways to…”
  • “How to do X without doing Y”

If you’re doing personal development at all — you always have something to share.

Energy matters (BU Times Two)

One important rule I live by:

👉 Only go live when your energy is good.

Video magnifies everything — including low energy.

You don’t have to be fake or overly cheerful, but you do want to show up as the best version of you in that moment.

Pick the time of day when you feel most energized — and protect it.

Batch your content when you can

One of my favorite strategies is batching Reels:

  • I save ideas throughout the week
  • Grab props or outfits
  • Film multiple videos in one session
  • Schedule them out

This removes so much stress and decision fatigue.

Final encouragement (and a challenge for you)

Video doesn’t have to be scary.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
And it doesn’t have to be daily.

But it does have to start.

🎥 Your challenge:
Plan your next Reel or live video this week.

And if you do — send it to me.
Tag me. Message me. Share it.

I will hype you up, comment, and cheer you on — because visibility changes everything.
