Stop Staying Busy & Start Prioritizing: The Direct Sales Productivity Shift You Need
Hi friend! Welcome back to the Passports, Profits and Pixie Dust Podcast. I’m Lindsay Dollinger—high school Spanish teacher, dog mom, world traveler, and direct seller helping women grow their businesses the right way so they can earn more, live more, and travel more.
Now that intros are out of the way… let’s dive in.
Listen in to the episode of the podcast here:
🚗 A Quick Car Chat About Productivity & Priorities
I’m recording this on my drive home, and I wanted to share a quick business tip that most direct sellers know—but forget to practice.
Today’s message is simple:
👉 Stop staying “busy.” Start prioritizing what actually moves your business forward.
So often we tell ourselves:
“I’m SO busy.”
“I worked my business ALL day.”
“I don’t have time.”
And yet… at the end of the day?
When we really look at how we spent our time…
Was any of it intentional?
Was any of it income-producing?
Was any of it the stuff that makes a difference next month?
Let’s be honest—sometimes the answer is no.
⭐️ Busy Doesn’t Pay You. Prioritized Action Does.
There are seasons in business, and your priorities will shift day by day or week by week.
Some days you need to follow up.
Some days you need to host parties.
Some days you need to book for next month.
Some days you need to create content.
But you cannot do everything every single day.
The key is learning what needs your attention right now.
Example:
I’m recording this toward the end of the month… and I realized I haven’t booked any parties for next month yet.
🚨 That’s a priority problem.
So guess what I’ll be doing tonight during my power hour?
Yup—inviting, pitching, planning.
Not creating pretty graphics.
Not scrolling.
Not reorganizing my phone apps.
Not making Canva magic (even though I love it 😉).
💡 The Book That Changed My Priorities: Eat That Frog
If you’ve never read Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, add it to your list.
The concept is simple:
👉 Do the toughest, most important, most uncomfortable task FIRST.
Don’t dance around it.
Don’t distract yourself with “busy work.”
Don’t avoid it until the end of the day.
Eat the frog.
Then you get the rest of the day to feel lighter, more in control, and more productive.
🧠 You Need Two Types of Business Time
There’s a big difference between:
1. Focused, undistracted business time
This is where you:
- Invite
- Follow up
- Book parties
- Message customers
- Reach out about the opportunity
These are your income-producing activities.
They deserve your FULL focus.
2. Distracted, multitask-friendly time
This is when you can:
- Schedule group posts
- Edit graphics
- Update your VIP group banner
- Organize your photos
- Watch team trainings
You can do these while watching a movie, folding laundry, or hanging out.
Know the difference.
Your business depends on it.
⭐️ You MUST Get Into People’s DMs
(And Yes, It Gets Easier)
Inviting people—whether to try a product, host a party, or join your team—is non-negotiable.
It’s where sales happen.
It’s where relationships deepen.
It’s where growth begins.
But inviting feels awkward when…
- You haven’t done any love bombing
- You haven’t engaged with their posts
- You haven’t built a relationship
This is why engagement matters—but as support.
Not as your main task.
If inviting feels scary, it’s usually because of mindset—not strategy.
💛 Mindset First, Skill Second
When you believe in:
- Your product
- Your company
- Your team
- Your opportunity
- YOURSELF
…then inviting stops feeling weird.
You simply share something you’re excited about with someone who might love it.
Confidence makes the process feel lighter.
Cleaner.
Genuine.
And confidence comes from mindset work.

🎨 A Quick Side Story About Being a “Creator”
I recently retook my brand archetype test, and while I thought my primary archetype was “Ruler,” I discovered I’m actually a “Creator.”
And WOW—it explains so much.
I’ve always loved creating:
- New groups
- New graphics
- New ideas
- New systems
- New party formats
- New content
- New projects
I even used to write sequel novels as a kid when a book didn’t have one. 😂
But here’s the thing…
Being a Creator is fun—
But it’s not always profitable.
Creating can be a distraction if you let it take over.
The real growth happens in…
✔️ inviting
✔️ following up
✔️ building relationships
✔️ booking parties
✔️ showing up consistently
Then—AFTER that—you can create all you want.
⭐️ Stop Putting Off What You Know You Need to Do
So tonight, after I unload groceries and hop on my Peloton (because I procrastinated on my Power Zone challenge until the final day 🙃), I’ll be diving into:
✨ Inviting
✨ Booking
✨ Filling my October calendar
✨ Client conversations
✨ Opportunity messages
Because THAT is what matters most today.
That is what grows my business.
That is what moves the needle.
And that is what I’m encouraging you to do, too.
🔧 Need Accountability? Ask for It.
Message a sideline, upline, or teammate:
“Hey, keep me accountable. My goal today is 15 invites. Check in with me at 8 PM.”
This works.
Have someone lovingly hold your feet to the fire.
Set reminders.
Use alarms.
Use trackers.
Then—get it done.
💛 Final Thoughts: Prioritize What Pays You
You know what to do.
You know what actually matters.
You know what grows your business.
Now it’s time to:
✔️ Make a plan
✔️ Stick to the plan
✔️ Prioritize high-value actions
✔️ Save the fun stuff for later
Your business will transform when your priorities do.
