Choose Your Weird, Choose Your Hard: Why Showing Up Matters More Than Ever in Your Direct Sales Business

Hi, friend!
Welcome back to the Passports, Profits and Pixie Dust corner of the internet. I’m Lindsay Dollinger—high school Spanish teacher, dog mom, world traveler, and direct seller who helps women build their businesses the right way so they can live the life of their dreams (and travel the world while doing it).

Let’s dive in.

The Truth: Most People Aren’t Failing… They’re Just Not Showing Up

A couple of times a year, there’s a business training that EVERY network marketer should pay attention to, and this week I’ve been listening to Eric Worre’s free 7-day Go Pro recruiting challenge.

Huge names. Massive value.
And one message keeps coming through over and over again:

👉 If you don’t show up for your business, someone else will.
👉 If you don’t talk about your opportunity, someone else will.
👉 If you don’t build relationships, someone else will.

You don’t need to be perfect.
You DO need to be present.

We Don’t Actually Have a Procrastination Problem… We Have a “That Feels Weird” Problem

A book I highly recommend is Eat That Frog, which is all about avoiding procrastination. But honestly? I don’t think procrastination is the core issue for most people.

The issue is:

  • “That feels weird.”
  • “That feels salesy.”
  • “What if I do it wrong?”
  • “I don’t want people to think I’m spammy.”
  • “It’s too hard.”
  • “I’ll do it later.”

We fill our days with the easy tasks:

  • Making cute graphics
  • Scrolling social
  • Commenting on friends’ posts
  • Organizing our planners
  • Watching one more training video

And we avoid the things that actually move the needle.

But here’s the truth:
We are a relationship-building industry.
Relationships require visibility.
Visibility requires consistency.
Consistency requires action.

You do not get to your next rank by hiding.

The FIT Method: Show Up Every Day

Jessie Lee (The People’s Mentor Podcast) teaches something simple but powerful:

Are you F.I.T.?

  • F = Facebook post
  • I = Instagram post
  • T = TikTok (or substitute Pinterest)

Not stories.
Actual POSTS.

Stories are amazing for behind-the-scenes, authenticity, polls, and connection. But your feed posts are the storefront of your business.

If people don’t see you, they forget you exist.
If people forget you exist, they buy from the person they DO see.

Stop Hiding Your Business Like It’s a Secret

Let me say something loudly with love:

👉 It is not weird to let people know what you do.
👉 It IS weird to expect a full-time income from a part-time visibility strategy.

People post all kinds of things on social:

  • Their engagement
  • Their new dog
  • A funny thing their kid said
  • Their lunch
  • A new job
  • A promotion

NONE of that is considered “weird.”

So why would it be weird to say:

  • “I’m excited about this amazing business opportunity!”
  • “My team is growing!”
  • “I’m hosting an opportunity call Thursday!”
  • “My customers love this product!”

If you’re not talking about it, people assume:

  • You’re not serious.
  • You’re not successful.
  • You’re not open for business.

The result?

They join or shop with someone else.

Not because they like her more.
Not because she’s better than you.
Simply because she showed up and you didn’t.

Relationship Building 101: Your Cold Market is Waiting for You

If you’re out of warm market (family + friends), GOOD.
That means you’re ready to build a real business.

Here are the fastest ways to grow your network:

⭐ 1. Join 3 New Facebook Groups Today

Yes—today.

There are groups for everything:

  • Disney
  • Peloton
  • Dog moms
  • Harry Potter
  • Instant Pot
  • Weight Watchers
  • Travel
  • Teachers
  • Hobbies
  • Health conditions
  • Mindset
  • Entrepreneurship

Your people are in there.

Here’s your homework:

  1. Join 3 new groups
  2. Introduce yourself
  3. Scroll through other intros
  4. COMMENT
  5. Add friends
  6. Start genuine conversations

This alone can explode your business.

⭐ 2. Add Value (Every Monday!)

One of my mentors shares value in 3 groups every Monday—consistently.

This could be:

  • A recipe
  • A quick tip
  • A question
  • A relatable story

People remember the person who helps them.

⭐ 3. Find Your Next 10 Prospects in the HOLIDAY GIFT HASHTAGS

This is a Fraser Brooks gem.

Go to Facebook or Instagram and search holiday gifts people buy.

Example:

  • #sharkvacuum
  • #StanleyCup
  • #PelotonBootCamp
  • #Nespresso

If a friend posts about it?
Message them.

If a stranger posts about it?
Follow → friend → message.

Simple conversation starter:

“Hey! I was looking at the Shark vacuum for my sister. Do you like yours?”

It’s natural.
It’s friendly.
And it WORKS.

⭐ 4. Message Your Friends’ Spouses About EASY GIFTS

This is GOLD if your product is giftable (nailed it for nail strips!).

Example:

“Hey Matt! In case you’re shopping for your wife, our nail strips were the #1 Google Beauty Product of 2020—super easy stocking stuffer. Want me to help you pick a set?”

Men LOVE easy wins. You’re doing them a favor.

Choose Your Weird. Choose Your Hard.

At the end of the day, you get to choose:

✔ Is it “weird” to post about your business?
OR
✔ Is it “weird” when your friends buy from someone else because you never talked about it?

✔ Is it “hard” to make a post?
OR
✔ Is it “hard” to wait for a paycheck that isn’t growing?

✔ Is it “uncomfortable” to send a message?
OR
✔ Is it “uncomfortable” to stay in the same place for another year?

Choose your weird.
Choose your hard.
Choose to show up.

Your Homework for Today

✔ Join 3 new Facebook groups

Introduce yourself. Comment on posts. Add new friends. Start conversations.

✔ Brain dump your week

Write down EVERYTHING you need to do. Then pick your top 3 priorities.

✔ Plan your week in your planner or system

If it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t happen.

✔ Decide what kind of leader you’re going to be

You are a leader even if you have zero teammates right now.

Show up like the leader you’re becoming.

Final Thought

You are not a burden.
You are not spammy.
You are not annoying.

You are a business owner.
You are a leader.
You are building something beautiful.

Now go out there and show up for it.

You’ve got this, friend. 💛
If you try the hashtag trick or join new groups, come tell me—I want to celebrate with you!
