Behind the Scenes of Leadership: What Makes Our Color Street Team So Special

Hello, hello, friends!
I’m Lindsay Dollinger — Color Street Senior Director, nail lover, business mentor, and the proud leader of the most incredible team of women.

Recently, I went live with some of our amazing team leaders to talk about what leadership really looks like in Color Street — and more importantly, what makes our team culture so unique, supportive, and downright magical.

This blog recaps everything we shared: our stories, our strengths, how we support our new stylists, what leadership looks like on our team, and why our community is something truly special.

Grab a coffee (or a sparkly set of nails 😉) and enjoy this behind-the-scenes peek!

Meet the Leaders: Why We Joined & What We Bring to the Team

We kicked things off with introductions from four of our leaders — each with a completely different story, background, and personality. Which is exactly what makes our team so strong.

⭐ Heather: Building Confidence & Community

Heather joined in January after trying Color Street and… getting all her friends addicted too.
A mom, nurse, and wife, she wanted something for herself — something fun, something confidence-boosting, something that wasn’t another role or responsibility.

She didn’t originally join with the intention of building a team, but quickly realized:

“I just wanted to empower other women and help them feel as good as I felt.”

Heather’s leadership strengths:

  • Encouragement
  • Support
  • Quiet confidence
  • A heart for helping women feel amazing

And she’s now one of our gurus when it comes to onboarding new stylists.

⭐ Amelia: Relationship Builder & VIP Engagement Queen

Amelia is our numbers-driven queen with the fun personality and unforgettable teaching-English-to-kids-in-China classroom backdrop.

She attended her very first Color Street party begrudgingly… and left obsessed.

What hooked her?

“I loved the relationships. I work from home, and this gave me a way to connect with amazing women.”

She loves:

  • Building community
  • Creating fun, engaging VIP experiences
  • Using metrics (yes, actual data!) to understand what her customers love
  • Helping her team reach their own unique personal and business goals

Her V.I.P. group is legendary — game nights, monthly reports, themed activities, and creativity galore.

⭐ Gretchen: Team-Builder & Positivity Cultivator

Gretchen is a high school administrator by day who trains teachers — which makes her a natural fit for mentorship and team leadership.

She joined after months of “thinking about it,” and now says:

“It’s the best thing to come out of 2020.”

Her strengths:

  • Understanding personalities
  • Helping women find their strengths
  • Building confidence
  • Attracting women who “light up” when they talk about the nails
  • Creating an environment where positivity thrives

She’s also a recruiting superstar because she sees potential in others long before they see it in themselves.

What Makes Our Team’s Onboarding So Special

Heather talked in detail about our onboarding system — and it’s one of the things our team is most proud of.

We don’t throw new stylists into the deep end and say, “Good luck!”

Instead, we provide:

🔹 A New Stylist Checklist

A step-by-step roadmap that tells you EXACTLY how to start strong.

🔹 The Golden Doc (Our Team Bible!)

This includes:

  • Links to important groups
  • Graphics resources
  • Training videos
  • Scripts
  • Tips
  • Step-by-step guides
  • And soooo much more

🔹 A Live Onboarding Call

You’re never alone — whether you’re brand new or terrified or somewhere in between.

🔹 Mentorship from leaders who truly care

Someone is ALWAYS available to help. Always.

Standing Out With Your VIP Group

Amelia dropped so many gems it was basically a mini-training inside the live.

Her rule of thumb?

“Your VIP shouldn’t just be about nails — it should be a place people want to hang out after work.

She uses:

  • Monthly activity and engagement reports
  • Themes
  • Games
  • Murder mysteries
  • “This or That” nail matchups
  • Fun backdrops
  • Props
  • Her naturally bright, joyful personality

And the moral of the story?

You don’t have to be “her” to succeed.
You just have to bring your personality — whatever that looks like.

Recruiting Through Confidence, Connection & Strengths (Gretchen Style!)

Gretchen talked about how she recruits so naturally and confidently — and it makes so much sense when you hear her process.

She looks for women who:

  • Light up when they talk about the product
  • Have complementary strengths
  • Would thrive in the “rainbow squad” she’s building
  • Need encouragement to see their own potential
  • Love community, fun, and positivity

Her philosophy?

“If you don’t think you have ‘it,’ I promise you do — let me show you.”

And THAT is leadership.

Confidence: The Thread That Runs Through Our Entire Team

Heather said it beautifully:

“Even if you don’t have a lot of confidence, you can absolutely do this — because you’ll always have someone reminding you how amazing you already are.”

Our team doesn’t believe confidence is something you must have before you join.

We believe confidence is something you build together.

And when you’re surrounded by:

  • Positive energy
  • Women who believe in you
  • Leaders who guide you
  • A culture that uplifts you

Confidence becomes the natural result.

What We LOVE About Being Leaders

We each got a chance to share what fills our cup as leaders. Here are the biggest themes:

✨ “The relationships.”

Leaders and customers become actual friends.

✨ “Seeing my VIP group run itself.”

That’s when you KNOW you’ve built community.

✨ “Watching new stylists find their voice.”

The best feeling EVER.

✨ “Collaborations between stylists who’ve never even met in person.”

The teamwork is unreal!

✨ “The free training and leadership development.”

You can’t put a price on that.

✨ “The trips, conferences & in-person events.”

We’re already planning Orlando! 🎉

✨ “Being in a space that’s 100% positive.”

No drama.
No negativity.
No tearing people down.
Only women lifting women.

Why Our Team Is Different From Any Other

🟣 We cheer louder.
🟣 We collaborate more freely.
