Stay in Your Lane, Girl: Why Your Success Depends on Focus (Not Comparison)
Let’s get into today’s truth bomb:
👉 It’s time to stay in your lane, girl.
This message is one I come back to over and over—not just in business, but in life. And today we’re breaking down exactly what that means, how to do it, and why it will change everything for you.

Picture This: You’re Driving in Rush Hour
You’re in your car, surrounded by traffic. You’ve got cars speeding by, someone switching lanes without a blinker (rude), someone braking too hard, someone drifting over the line…
Are you:
- Watching every car around you?
- Comparing your speed to theirs?
- Thinking, “Hmm, how fast is THAT person going?”
- Getting frustrated because someone three lanes over is ahead of you?
NO.
(Or at least—you shouldn’t be.)
In order to drive safely and get where you’re going, you need to focus on:
- Your car
- Your speed
- Your lane
- Your direction
- Your next turn
- Your goals
Business is EXACTLY the same.
When you start looking at what other people are doing—how fast they’re moving, how far ahead they seem—you drift out of your lane.
And drifting gets dangerous.
Comparison: The Lane Drift That Takes You Out Every Time
Let’s be honest… comparison is a trap most women fall into without even noticing.
We do it at the beach, in the gym, at work, on Instagram… you name it.
And in direct sales? Whew. Comparison is HIGH.
You hear someone introduce themselves on a company training:
“Hi, I’m so-and-so. I’m a National Executive Director… and I joined six months ago.”
And suddenly you’re like:
❌ “Wait WHAT?”
❌ “How did she do that?”
❌ “What am I doing wrong?”
❌ “Why am I not moving that fast?”
❌ “Am I even cut out for this?”
STOP.
This is the moment you’ve drifted out of your lane.
There is a difference between:
✨ Being inspired by someone
✨ Learning from someone
✨ Modeling successful behavior
… and spiral-laddering into negative self-talk and self-judgment.
Everyone’s road looks different:
- Different speed
- Different skillset
- Different responsibilities
- Different time availability
- Different personality
- Different consistency
What looks like someone’s “overnight success” usually has years of work behind it.
Your lane is YOUR lane. Stay there.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #1: Don’t Compare the Journey
You can absolutely be competitive—with YOURSELF.
Examples:
- “I sold $3,000 last month. This month I want to beat it.”
- “I booked six parties; next month I want seven.”
- “I followed up with 40 people; next week I’ll follow up with 45.”
THIS is healthy, productive competition.
But comparing yourself to someone else’s highlight reel?
Unproductive. Draining. Distracting.
And worst of all—it takes your eyes off YOUR finish line.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #2: Don’t Police Everyone Else’s Business
We all know that person in the company who:
- Posts forbidden specials
- Sells on eBay
- Uses language that’s not compliant
- Does flashy “get rich” claims
- Breaks policies left and right
Here’s the truth:
If it’s someone on your team → reach out kindly.
If it’s not → bless and release.
You’re not corporate.
You’re not compliance.
You’re not the morality squad.
Your energy is too precious to waste on policing.
Whenever I see something shady, illegal, or just plain cringey, I ask:
👉 Does this affect me, my business, or my team?
If not → bye.
Your job is YOUR lane.
Your sales.
Your customers.
Your consistency.
Your goals.
Anything else is a distraction disguised as importance.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #3: Don’t Let Opinions Steer Your Direction
This one hits home.
When I joined my current company, I had already been in several others before it. So I had this huge insecurity about people saying:
“Oh, what’s she selling now?”
And guess what?
People DID say it.
That’s when the blinders become necessary.
Someone once told a coworker:
“Ask Lindsay—she sells everything.”
Did it sting? YES.
Did it stop me? NO.
Why? Because:
- That person doesn’t pay my bills.
- That person doesn’t earn my incentives.
- That person doesn’t decide my happiness.
- That person doesn’t get to control my future.
People will ALWAYS talk.
Let them.
Talking creates awareness (hello, free marketing).
Talking doesn’t stop your paycheck.
Blinders on.
Chin up.
Keep going.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #4: Avoid Drama Like It’s a Speed Bump
Drama ≠ momentum.
If someone on your team starts drama? Address it kindly and quickly.
If it’s not your circus? Walk away.
Things companies do may frustrate you sometimes:
- Shipping delays
- Product changes
- Leadership shifts
- CEO comments
- New policies
- Temporary setbacks
These are NORMAL.
Every company has growing pains.
If it’s moral, ethical, or serious?
Have a conversation with your upline.
If it’s minor, annoying, or temporary?
Stay in your lane.
Because—say it with me—
👉 Where your focus goes, your energy flows.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #5: Focus on YOUR Outcomes and Goals
You should be rewriting your goals weekly:
- Sponsoring goals
- Sales goals
- Customer goals
- Party goals
- Personal development goals
Then, once your goals are set:
✨ Add 1% more.
Every week.
Small gains = big wins over time.
You’d be shocked how much further you’ll go with tiny, intentional improvements.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #6: Surround Yourself With the Right People
You absolutely need:
- An accountability partner
- A supportive team
- A mentor or upline
- Friends who believe in you
- People who encourage your growth
And ONE person you can vent to privately when you need to.
Not:
- Team pages
- Group chats
- Your downline
- Your customers
Vent up.
Never vent down.
And always keep it brief—five-minute pity party max.
Then?
Shake it off, girl. Return to your lane.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #7: Use Mantras, Mindset, and Motivation
Mindset matters.
Say it louder: mindset matters MORE than anything else.
Some mantras that help:
- “I attract high-quality business builders.”
- “I am a confident recruiter.”
- “I am a leader in my company.”
- “I reach my goals consistently.”
- “I make today great.”
Say them OUT LOUD.
Smile when you say them.
Seriously—it changes your energy instantly.
Stay in Your Lane Rule #8: Look Where You Want to Go
Just like driving:
If you stare at the ditch…
You’ll drive into the ditch.
If you stare at other people’s lanes…
You’ll drift out of yours.
But if you stare straight ahead at YOUR end goal?
You will get there—with confidence, clarity, and consistency.
Final Thoughts: Your Lane Is Enough
You don’t need someone else’s timeline.
You don’t need someone else’s speed.
You don’t need someone else’s strategy.
👉 You need YOUR lane.
👉 You need YOUR goals.
👉 You need YOUR focus.
👉 You need YOUR determination.
Stay in your lane.
Keep showing up.
Trust the process.
And don’t give up.
You’ve got this, girl. 💛✨
