How to Check In for Your Carnival Cruise (Step-by-Step Guide)
Grab my Cruise Essentials Packing List for Free here!
One of the most common questions I get from cruise clients is:
“How do I check in for my Carnival cruise?”
Don’t worry — the process is actually very simple once you know where to go. And doing it ahead of time will make embarkation day much smoother and faster.
Here is the easy step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Wait Until Check-In Opens
Carnival online check-in opens 14 days before your sailing date. The exception to this is if you have Platinum or Diamond status or are booked into a Suite! Then you check in 16 days before. If you log into your Carnival account, it’ll tell you your check-in date.
You must complete it no later than midnight (Eastern Time) the night before your cruise.
If you forget to do it before then, you can still cruise — but you’ll likely experience longer wait times at the terminal.
Step 2: Go to the Carnival Website
Go to:
https://www.carnival.com/booked/home
You can also click “Manage My Booking” on the Carnival website.
Tip:
If your phone is giving you trouble loading the page, try using a desktop or laptop computer.
Step 3: Create a Carnival Account (If Needed)
If this is your first Carnival cruise, you’ll need to create an account. You can do that ahead of time (highly recommended) to go ahead and link your booking!
You’ll need a few details:
- Carnival booking number
- Your last name
- Your date of birth
- Ship name
- Sailing date
Once your account is set up, log in using your email/username and password.
Step 4: Complete the Online Check-In
After you log in, go to your “To Do List” and click Online Check-In.
Carnival will ask you to complete several sections:
- Guest information
- Travel documents (passport or ID information)
- Travel plans (how you’re arriving to the port)
- Arrival appointment selection
- Onboard expense account (credit card for onboard purchases)
- Cruise preferences
- Accept the cruise ticket contract
Just work through the steps one at a time and submit the information! Pro tip: You can skip the documents and come back and upload them later if needed…skip through and pick your arrival time to get a good one!
Step 5: Select Your Arrival Appointment
This step is very important.
Carnival requires all guests to choose an Arrival Appointment.
This is the time window when you should arrive at the cruise terminal.
Why this matters:
Choosing a time helps Carnival manage crowds so you don’t spend hours waiting in line.
A few tips:
- Arrive within your scheduled window
- Appointments are selected per stateroom, not per person
- If you’re traveling with friends in another cabin, coordinate your arrival time together
If you don’t choose a time, Carnival will assign one automatically the morning of your cruise.
Step 6: Print or Save Your Boarding Pass
Once check-in is complete, Carnival will generate your boarding pass.
You can:
- Print it
- Save it to your phone
- Or access it from your email
Bring this with you on embarkation day along with your passport or required travel documents, and your luggage tags already attached to your bags.
Step 7: Embarkation Day Tips
On cruise day:
✔ Arrive during your scheduled arrival appointment
✔ Have your boarding pass ready
✔ Bring your passport or ID
You must be on board before the final boarding time listed on your boarding pass, or the ship will not allow you to sail.
What Happens If You Don’t Complete Online Check-In?
If your check-in status shows Incomplete, you will have to complete the full registration process at the cruise terminal.
This can add significant wait time, so I always recommend finishing it before your cruise.
Final Tip from Your Travel Advisor
The earlier you complete online check-in within the 14-day window, the better arrival times will still be available.
Popular time slots fill quickly!
