Celebrating My Women Role Models this International Women’s Day

Published on

Happy International Women’s Day, friends! Whether you are a woman or not, we all know some powerful and strong women who have hopefully influenced our lives for the better. I want to quickly shout out a handful of the boss babes who have helped shape my life to be what it is now.

My mom

I know, I know, this seems like a trite answer, but my mom really was the complete definition of a kick ass boss babe. My mom was an incredibly hard-working woman. She worked a day job, then did all her mom things (you know the things, getting us to practices and meetings and hair cuts and classes and helping us wash chickens…all the things), then helped around the farm we living on. Additionally, when I was ten, she was diagnosed with breast cancer that ended up taking her life when I was 27 and she was 54. Even with a poor prognosis, she didn’t alter her schedule any. She just added doctor’s appointments and chemo treatments, and back to work she went. Also, my mom didn’t take any crap off anyone. She taught us we could do anything we wanted, that no dream was too big for the universe, and no one was any better than we were. Love ya, Mom.

My sister

My sister and I are almost exact opposites. We don’t look a lot alike and our personalities are also polar opposites, but we have had to lean on each other a lot, especially as adults. In times where not even my closest friends could understand the pain of losing a loved one, my sister has been there. When I have a crazy idea of my next project I’m going to do, my sister says, “Okay sure, let’s do it.” It’s nice to have that person in my life, and I hope you have someone like that too, even if you don’t have a sister.

Women I work with

I am a high school teacher and I work with some amazing women. Whether their role is as a fellow teacher, secretary, custodian, or other staff, it’s so nice to work with understanding women who support me whether I’m having a good day or a bad one, when I mess up and need brought back to reality, or when I’m running into work with my hair wet because my alarm didn’t go off. Building those relationships up as the years go on is one of my favorite parts of my job. Yes, I love my students and I love speaking Spanish, but at the end of the day, it’s the relationships that matter.

My “ride or die” girl friends

You know who you are. The girls who no matter how much time it has been, we can get together for dinner, sit together at a wedding, take a workout class together, text each other a random Facebook memory from 12 years ago… and still die from laughter at our stupid stories. Though we now do super cool things like spend Friday nights in our pajamas watching Netflix, or falling asleep on the couch, instead of hitting up the bars, but hey, it’s still fun and necessary, right? #wearesoold

My women entrepreneur role models

I’ve done my share of network marketing companies before I found the right ones for me, and through that journey, I’ve read a million (okay, slight exaggeration) of personal development books and listened to allllll (okay, almost all) of the podcasts, and let me tell you, there are a lot of amazing women entrepreneurs out there just killing it and sharing their info for free (or almost free) with the world! Women like Chalene Johnson, Jenna Kutcher, Jamie King, Isabella Silverio, Taylor Bradford, Amanda Boleyn, Rachel Hollis, Marie Forleo, Amy Porterfield, Stacy Tuschl, Danielle Klemm, Jessica Honneger, Marie Wold, Sophia Amoruso, Jen Sincero, Cara Alwill Leyba, and the list could go on forever. I know I’m forgetting some of my favorites, but I just want to say, if you’re sharing your great content out into the world, thank you! You don’t have to be Insta famous to be making an impact–I have fellow bosses, MLM leaders, and more who are just as noteworthy but not “famous” and I want to say thank you to you all.

No matter who you are, thank you for being YOU

As the quote says, “Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.” Thank a strong role model of yours today, and everyday. More gratitude and love make this world a better place.

XO,

Lindsay
