The Truth About Income Producing Activities (and Why They Changed My Entire Business)
Listen in to this episode of the podcast here:
If You Want a Business That Feels Like Freedom… You Need to Hear This
I’m recording this while driving home from my day job (yep — still teaching, still doing all the things), and something has been on my heart that I know someone needs to hear today:
👉 If you want your business to work… you need to focus on the tasks that actually build your business.
Not the cute tasks.
Not the busy tasks.
Not the “scrolling, thinking, planning, organizing, maybe-I’ll-start-after-this” tasks.
The income producing tasks.
Because here’s the truth we sometimes forget:
✨ You’re a business owner.
✨ Your time is valuable.
✨ Your energy is valuable.
And if you’re anything like me — working full-time, wanting a personal life, wanting sleep (8 hours solid over here 🙋♀️), wanting workouts, wanting FUN — your business has to fit into your life… not take over your life.
My Hustle-Era Story (AKA: What Notto Do)
Let me take you back a bit.
I started in network marketing in the health and fitness space. Then I moved into the world of retail — a clothing company. And THAT is where everything spiraled.
I entered a season of toxic hustle culture so deep that I didn’t even realize how unhealthy it was.
My life looked like:
- Teaching all day
- Rushing home to prep for live sales
- Taking photos
- Uploading inventory
- Cataloging products
- Doing live sales at night
- Invoicing
- Following up when people didn’t pay
- Shipping every day (yes… the post office literally came to my house daily)
- Staying up until midnight or 1 AM
- Waking up at 5 AM to teach
- NOT working out
- NOT eating well
- NOT sleeping
- NOT living
And at the time?
I told myself it meant I was “successful.”
I made great money. I hit high ranks. I earned accolades.
But I was exhausted.
Burnt out.
Losing myself.
And completely disconnected from the life I actually wanted.
So eventually… I walked away.
The Breath of Fresh Air I Forgot I Needed
When I left that company, there was this magical little window — a few weeks before I joined my current company — where I remembered what life felt like.
I remembered:
✨ Free time
✨ Rest
✨ Peace
✨ Evenings with friends
✨ Time for myself
✨ NOT being glued to my phone
And let me tell you… that felt GOOD.
So when I tried the product from my current company (fully planning to say no), and I LOVED it… I knew:
If I was going to build again, I had to build smarter.
I had to build with:
✔️ Boundaries
✔️ Systems
✔️ Intentionality
✔️ Clarity
✔️ Actual work-life balance
And I DID.
And guess what?
My business grew faster than ever — WITHOUT burning me out.
