Turning a Disney obsession into a real business (yes, it’s possible)

If you’ve ever thought:

  • “I love Disney, but how would that ever become income?”
  • “My interests feel too niche.”
  • “I’m not ‘qualified’ enough to talk about what I love.”

…this episode is your proof that you absolutely can build something real from what lights you up.

In this episode, I’m interviewing Conor Brown, the creator of WDW Opinion and Vacation Kingdoms—and his story is such a good reminder that your passions don’t have to stay “just for fun.”

Meet Conor Brown: From Cast Member to Creator

Conor’s journey started as a cast member at Walt Disney World. When he didn’t land a permanent position with the Walt Disney Company, he didn’t take that as the end of the road—he took it as a pivot point.

Instead of shelving his Disney knowledge, he used it.

He decided to turn his passion for everything Disney into a blog, which eventually expanded into a podcast and then into a travel agency.

And I love this so much because it’s a reminder that you don’t need permission from a “big brand” to create a brand of your own.

The biggest lesson: your passion can be your platform

One of the most powerful takeaways from Conor’s story is this:

You don’t have to pick between “what you love” and “what makes money.”

Conor is living proof that it’s possible to take what you genuinely love and build a business around it.

The magic isn’t just in the Disney part—it’s in the decision to take yourself seriously.

What to do if you want to build a business from what you love

If you’re sitting on an idea (or a passion) that keeps tugging at you, here are a few takeaways you can apply right now:

1) Start with content, not perfection

Conor didn’t start with a massive company—he started with a blog.
Your version might be:

  • a weekly newsletter
  • a TikTok series
  • a podcast
  • a YouTube channel
  • a simple Instagram theme

Pick one platform and commit to showing up consistently.

2) Let your business evolve as you evolve

Conor’s journey expanded over time—from blog → podcast → travel agency.
That’s the whole point: you don’t have to build the “final version” today.

3) Use the “closed door” as a redirect, not a dead end

He didn’t get the permanent Disney role he wanted… so he built something that gave him more freedom and ownership anyway.
If something didn’t work out for you recently, ask:
How could this be a redirection into something even better?
